ℹ️ How Our Sessions Work

  • Games are 1:1. Every game is a head-to-head match.
  • We play in rounds. A round is a “wave” where games start together.
  • North Metro Rounds continue as long as people are playing.
  • Daytime Four rounds with a lunch break after round 1.
  • Pairings are dynamic. Pairings for the next round are based on results.
  • Odd number of players? The usual option is for one player to sit out. When appropriate, one person may play two separate games.
  • New players get extra support. For your first six sessions, you may use a cheat sheet with every allowable 2- and 3-letter word.
  • New players get more time. A regular game gives each player 25 minutes total for all of their turns. New players get 30 minutes for their first six sessions. After that time is used, the usual overtime penalty is 10 points for each started minute over.
  • New players may challenge freely. For your first six sessions, there is no penalty for an unsuccessful challenge. If you play a phoney word and your opponent challenges it off, you still lose that turn.
  • Word source: WGPO Official Words 2024 (WOW24).
  • Rules: Club play currently follows the NASPA 2017 Official Tournament Rules.
  • Conduct: WGPO also maintains a WGPO conduct policy for WGPO-affiliated clubs and events.
